Siding
Siding, located at an elevation of 1,200 meters, where there are tea and orchid plantations as far as the eye can see. Stop at one of the areas, houses or coffee shops to enjoy some of the local brews along with spectacular views. Siding offers stunning sunrise views. It is also a good place to see banks of clouds as they cascade like waterfalls over the mountain peaks.
Alishan National Scenic Area
The Alishan Forest Recreational Area is located at an elevation of 2,216 meters. It boasts a rich diversity of wildlife and plant species, a dramatic landscape of cliffs, valleys, and waterfalls, and breathtaking cloud formation, sunrise and sunset views. The western section includes the Cihyun Temple and the Shenmu (Sacred Trees) Trail. In the central part of this recreation area are Jhaoping Park, Jhaoping Station, Alishan House, Alishan Gou Hotel and Jiemei (Sisters) Pond. In the eastern section is Taiwan’s favorite place for watching the sunrise-Jhushan’s Guanrihlou. There is also a platform for viewing the star-filled night sky. In spring, the Alishan Forest Recreation Area comes alive in color with bright pink cherry blossoms.
Fencihu
Fencihu is a small town of low wooden buildings which is built into the mountainside at 1,400 meters, midpoint of the Alishan Forest Railway. Due to its location near the source of the Bajhang River, it is rich in ecological resources and famous for natural rock formations, mountain streams and forests. Fencihu has long been known for its quaint old streets and its production of high altitude food products such as bamboo shoots, aiyu jelly, and the local boxed lunches. The shops along the street down from the train station sell a variety of specialty goods that attract out-town shoppers.
